What is Online Writing Jobs?

Online Writing Jobs is a freelance writing service that allows writers of all skill levels and experience to write online. We were once known as QualityGal.com, and we have been in the freelance writing business since 2006, specializing in connecting writers with brands around the world.

Why write for Online Writing Jobs?

There are numerous reasons to write for us. At Online Writing Jobs, we believe that it is our responsibility to treat our writers with respect. We aim to act as an advocate and are always available to help through email. Having happy writers makes everyone, especially the brands we work with, happy as well.

Does it cost anything to join?

Not only does it cost nothing to join, but it will never cost you anything to be part of our community. Any resources we provide to improve your writing are free of charge. We have a responsibility to our clients to provide them with the best writers possible, so we give you all of the support possible to ensure a great working relationship.

Can I work remotely?

Yes. In fact, working remotely is the only current option for our writers, giving you the freedom to work when and where you want.

When are your deadlines?

Deadlines are determined on a case-by-case basis. Usually, a writer is given two days or more to complete a piece. Information regarding the deadline will always be available before taking the assignment. All work is due by 3 p.m. Eastern time on the due date given. Please make note that the time zone is Eastern, as this will affect all writers regardless of your local time zone. Any work not submitted by that deadline will not receive compensation and the article will be re-assigned to the next available writer. Extensions can be granted at the discretion of the Online Writing Jobs staff, given 24 hours’ notice.

How much will I be paid?

Our rates vary depending upon a variety of factors. The type of content, your level of authority and expertise, the deadline, and the required length of the article can all impact the amount of money we pay for a given article. That said, on the low end, we pay around $15, though some projects will pay as much as $50. You will be able to see the payout of any given article before agreeing to complete it. How do I get started?

To apply for a writer position with Online Writing Jobs, applicants MUST submit an application form, including a custom writing sample using these writing instructions. Along with signing up and submitting your writing sample, applicants are required to send a W9 form and a copy of their valid government-issued photo identification as proof of residency and identity: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf. Please note that applications cannot be processed until we receive all required paperwork.

What is the Non-Compete Clause/Confidentiality Agreement?

Please do not let this scare you; we do NOT bar any freelancer from writing for other companies. Simply put, we do not want a freelancer to write for our clients directly, instead of going through OWJ Staff. Generally, we will never expose our clients. However, if we do disclose our clients we want to protect their confidentiality. This agreement will not affect any writer who wants to work for OWJ Staff while working for other freelance companies.

What is the test article process like?

When you fill out the form to write for Online Writing Jobs, you will be asked to complete a 500-plus-word assignment that will gauge your writing skill. If you have other samples available, we request that you include them in addition to the required sample. Only applicants who successfully submit the writer panel application, photo ID, and W9 will be reviewed. Please note that writing samples will not be used in any form by Online Writing Jobs.

Are writing test assignments paid?

Online Writing Jobs pays $10 for accepted applications. Declined applications are not compensated.

What if I am not accepted to write for Online Writing Jobs?

If your sample is not accepted, you are welcome to reapply to become an Online Writing Jobs writer six (6) months from the date your application was declined.

OWJ Invoice and Payment FAQs

Which payment methods are available to freelance writers?

The preferred payment method is PayPal. Freelance writers may also be paid by check.

How do I get paid for my articles?

A minimum invoice amount of $15 is required before an invoice may be submitted. To get paid for any graded articles, a writer must submit an invoice. Once your article status changes from Being Edited to Graded, you can submit an invoice. Invoices can be submitted as often as you like.

To submit an invoice: Click on the “Your Account” tab and select “Send an Invoice.” Select the “Send Invoice” button at the very bottom of the screen.

Invoices must be submitted by Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern time to receive payment on Friday. Invoices submitted after the invoice cutoff will be paid the following Friday.

Once I submit my invoice, when will I get paid?

PayPal payments are processed weekly on Friday mornings through PayPal for invoices submitted by the 3 p.m. Thursday cutoff. If your payment is not received by the end of the day on Friday, please contact us.

Checks are mailed out each week on Monday for invoices submitted by the 3 p.m. Thursday cutoff. Checks are typically received within five (5) business days. Checks may be voided after ten days. If a check is not received, please contact us.

How do holidays or OWJ office closures affect me and my payment?

We are closed on the following major holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If any of the above holidays fall on a Thursday, the payment schedule is unaffected. Invoices may still be submitted by the 3 p.m. Eastern time invoice cutoff to receive payment on Friday.

If any of the above holidays fall on a Friday, writers are required to submit invoices for payment on the Wednesday prior to the holiday by 3 p.m. Eastern time. Payments for invoices submitted by the cutoff will be paid the Thursday before the Friday holiday.
